About the Artist:
Billy Tan (Billy Tan Mung Khoy) is a Malaysian-born comic book artist celebrated for his dynamic penciling across major publishers. Born in Penang in 1970, he moved to the U.S. at 18 to study business at the University of Kentucky but found his true calling in comics after immersing himself in American comic book culture .
He launched his career in the 1990s with Image/Top Cow, contributing to titles like Witchblade, Tomb Raider, Codename: Stryke Force, 21, and Spirit of the Tao. His work caught Marvel’s attention, and by 2005 he was drawing X-23, soon followed by high-profile runs on Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men (became the regular artist in 2006), and New Avengers, including the Secret Invasion tie-ins in 2008.
In 2013, Tan transitioned to DC Comics, taking over Green Lantern with writer Robert Venditti until 2016. Among Marvel highlights, he illustrated Shadowland, a notable Daredevil story arc .
Later, Billy returned to Asia, co-founding Tan Comics in Shanghai and launching original digital series inspired by Chinese culture and martial arts, including Generation Wu and Hero & Shero.
Known for his bold, clean linework and cinematic storytelling, he continues to create variants and covers for Marvel while nurturing his own Eastern-universe IP .
